Sydney University Disclaimer

Disclaimer Disclaimer...

You know the one -- it has popped up all over this site (and others) as users seek to 'protect' themselves here:

"WARNING: Sydney University or any institution or person using this site or any of it's associated sites for study, projects, or personal agenda - You do not have my permission to use any of my profile or pictures in any form or forum, both current or future... (blah blah blah) ...be considered a violation of my privacy and will be subject to legal action." -- or some variations on this.

My 'disclaimer' really isn't worth anything. The one on my profile page I mean. It is not as if I post anything here that is personally compromising and it is equally not as though I am going to hire a lawyer to take action against anyone who defames or tries to take advantage of me here. I suppose that I want to assert some semblance of ownership, over my words mainly. Also, importantly, to offer to remove anything that I may inadvertently put here that might offend anyone, if asked. I think that's reasonable. But I never expect to have any real legal recourse through a disclaimer on a sex site, to action against any member of the public who uses anything that I have posted...err...publicly.

It seems some institutions, academic ones, have used sex sites for research purposes in the past. And some people have taken umbrage at this. But the disclaimers don't hold any water. They are not enforceable. And it is probably true that any user here who posts, in the act of posting, is effectively handing over their rights to the Hxamster Mandarins who oversee our every action here and upon whose benevolence we all depend, (or under whose arbitrary dismissal we suffer, as in their cull of users' data of a few years back, and which appears to be ongoing...). In short, XH hold all the cards, no doubt as laid out in the small print of their terms of service (which none of us 'users' ever read) and, as such, they can simply can do what they like with our material.

It is best for us users not to take our profiles here too seriously. Post lightly my friends. And don't put anything here that you are not prepared to let go of at zero notice.

Anyhow, this is a fun related article, for anyone who's interested:

Blessings, one and all.
